For close to 50 years, The Shepherd Centre has been helping children who are deaf or have a hearing loss to learn how to listen and speak. Founded in 1970 with just five families, The Shepherd Centre now helps over 500 families in our five centres and through our teleintervention program across NSW, Tasmania and the ACT.
The Shepherd Centre’s aim is to assist children who are deaf or hearing impaired reach their full potential and be a fully contributing member of the community. Recognised as a leader in the field of Speech Therapy, the organisation works with the child, their family and carers to help each child develop spoken language.
Since inception, The Shepherd Centre has assisted over 2,500 children and their families. The vast majority of children who graduate from The Shepherd Centre’s programs enter mainstream school with speech and language skills typically on par with their hearing classmates.
Support from the community provides almost 70% of the much needed funds to provide these programs to our students. Fundraising for The Shepherd Centre will help us to continue our life-changing work.
